Imagine being a talented designer without the funds and/or network to participate in a design event like Dutch Design Week. Participating in an international design fair involves a financial barrier to entry - unfortunately this makes it not possible for everyone to participate.. With this knowledge, ask yourself the question: How inclusive are such design events? Our solution and statement to build awareness of this is to display as many designers as possible in 1m2 of ground space at the Van Abbe Museum during Dutch Design Week 2021. The designers showcased will be selected by an independent jury. Our goal is to create a 1m2 exhibition that is as inclusive as possible and free of participation costs. That's where we need your help!

 

Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven is the largest design event in Northern Europe and presents work and concepts from more than 2,600 designers to more than 355,000 visitors from home and abroad. How amazing would it be if your contribution would help someone take part in such a big event, expanding their network and showcasing their work to an international audience? We all deserve the opportunity to take part in such events!

 

By crowdfunding the exhibition our goal is to make the participation free for those who exhibit their work. Through curation and considered exhibition design the pieces will be stacked to create a unique collective design piece. Alongside highlighting the individual designers, the piece will make a statement as a whole to question the costs of design festivals. This, together with our own research into the finance required to take part in design festivals will form our positive protest to stimulate conversation about inclusivity in the design industry.
